Connecting at New York
Air New Zealand operates from Terminal 1 at the John F. Kennedy International Airport. If you're connecting with another airline, you may need to change terminals.
If you're arriving on an international flight, you need to clear US Customs checkpoints before entering the United States and collect your baggage (even if you're in transit and have connecting flights).
- 1
Arriving at John F. Kennedy International Airport
On arrival, exit through the gate in Terminal 1 and make your way to Immigration.
- 2
Collecting baggage
Once you've been through Immigration, make your way to the baggage claim area on Level 1 to collect your baggage (even if it has been through-checked to your final destination).
Display screens will indicate which baggage carousel is assigned to your flight.
- 3
Baggage/agriculture inspection
When you've collected your baggage, make your way to the US Customs processing area on Level 1 for a baggage/agriculture inspection.
If your final destination is New York, you can leave through the arrivals hall after clearing Customs.
- 4
Recheck baggage
If you have a connecting flight, recheck your baggage with your departing airline (even if it has been through-checked to your final destination) which is located outside of the US Customs processing area.
- 5
Connecting flights or transfers
If you have a connecting flight from Terminal 4, 5, 7, and 8, follow the signs to the Terminal 8 & Terminal 4 shuttle bus to transfer to the AirTrain.
If you have a connecting flight from Terminal 1, make your way to the departure level and head through the security checkpoint at your departure gate, or head to one of our Star Alliance Partner Lounges (Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines).
On arrival at your connecting terminal, you need to head through a security screening checkpoint before making your way to your departure gate.
